Is Lemonade Insurance actually bad? I’d love honest reviews.

I used Lemonade renters insurance when my apartment was broken into, and they had fast and friendly responses. I filed a claim through their app by recording a video and providing a police report, and the deposit hit my account about a week later. It was the only renters insurance I’ve ever used, and the process seemed pretty straightforward for me.

I switched to Lemonade car insurance because their quote was significantly cheaper than my previous GEICO policy. For about 1200 miles a month, Lemonade quoted me $160 a month with better coverage, including towing, compared to $180 a month with Progressive. I have a clean driving history, so the savings were substantial for me upfront, but I haven’t had to file a claim yet to see how that goes.

From what I’ve seen, Lemonade seems okay for very basic issues, like theft, where the AI can probably handle it quickly. However, for more complex claims, like the person dealing with a severe smell making their home uninhabitable, they faced denial and inadequate automated responses despite providing lots of documentation. It seems their tech focus isn’t enough for everything.

I tried Lemonade for car insurance thinking I’d save money with their initial $573 for six months, but I ended up being charged an extra $40-$95 every month. Even though I don’t drive much, mostly just picking up my kid and going to the office twice a week, the extra charges made it not worth the initial low price. I’m now looking to switch to a different company.

I actually had a pretty smooth experience with Lemonade renters insurance when my phone was stolen. I filed a police report and sent it to them, and they reimbursed me the cost of my phone. Even though they said my rates might go up, they never did, and I’m still paying just $6 a month. For a simple claim, they were great for me.
