Hey community members, I’m seeing my car insurance rates climb month after month, and it’s getting ridiculous. I have a clean driving record, and nothing has changed on my end. I’m curious to know what other people are paying for car insurance and what factors you think are contributing to these increasing costs. Please share your approximate monthly premium and any relevant details you think explain it.

I’m in Tampa, Florida, and I personally use Amica, paying about $400 a month for auto insurance on a Honda Passport and a Toyota 4Runner. I’m happy with their service, especially after hitting a wild hog and having them take care of the repairs and a rental car. Getting multiple quotes is definitely a good idea.

I used to pay around $7000 a year for my parents’ home insurance with Chubb, but they switched to another company and now pay $2500 for the same coverage. Their car insurance with Chubb was also way too high compared to other companies with the same coverage. This shows that even “high-end” insurers can be much more expensive.

I’m considering switching to a company like Metromile that actually rewards people for good driving, or maybe Progressive’s Snapshot program. I don’t like that my State Farm rates keep going up for no reason, even though I’ve had no tickets or claims in 30 years.

I’ve been with Geico for about five years in the Seattle area, and my premium for a 2020 GMC Denali has been as low as $83 and as high as around $150 per month, currently around $120. It really seems to depend on your zip code. This shows how much location can impact your insurance costs.
