Hey pet parents! I’m trying to decide if pet insurance is a good investment. I keep hearing mixed opinions, but what I really want to know is if it has actually saved you money or been worth the monthly cost. If you have pet insurance, can you share your experience with how much you’ve paid in premiums versus how much you’ve received in reimbursements? Real numbers would be super helpful in making this decision!

Although I’ve never had to file a major claim yet, I chose Trupanion because they have a lifetime per-condition deductible. For my three dachshunds, I pay around $130 per month, and the idea of only paying the deductible once for a recurring condition like potential back issues later in life gives me significant peace of mind.

With five pets (two dogs and three cats) to care for, I chose ASPCA insurance and pay a total of $150 per month. Over the years, we’ve typically had at least one emergency vet visit annually, and with an 80% reimbursement rate after a $250 deductible for each pet, the insurance has definitely been financially beneficial for our multi-pet household.

I’ve been with Embrace since 2014, and while their service used to be outstanding, it’s now just okay. However, when I do submit claims, I’ve found their reimbursement process to be quite quick. Typically, it takes about 3-4 days from submitting the claim to it being processed, and then another two days or so for the direct deposit to hit my account (it takes longer if they mail a check).

Having Pets Best insurance has been a positive experience for me. In my dog’s second year with them, they’ve already reimbursed over $4,000 in vet expenses. Even though my premiums have increased somewhat, the significant payouts we’ve received make it feel entirely worth the cost. I know another Pets Best user with an unlimited plan, a $1,000 deductible, and a 90/10 split has received over $15,000 in reimbursements, typically within 7-8 days of filing a claim.
