From my experience, the best way to find the cheapest insurance without doing all the work yourself is to visit a local independent insurance agent. They can get quotes from many different companies at once – I remember my agent found me quotes from over a dozen insurers in a single meeting. Plus, they know little tips, like how sometimes adding a cheap renters policy can actually give you a multi-policy discount that saves you more than the renters policy costs.

I’ve found that the absolute cheapest options are often smaller, regional insurers that don’t spend a ton on ads. For example, when I lived in Iowa, companies like IMT and Iowa Mutual consistently had lower quotes for minimum coverage compared to the big national companies because they focus on the local area. You should definitely get quotes from those types of places first.
