I would strongly advise against Nationwide pet insurance. My corgi had emergency surgery costing $20,000, and I discovered that Nationwide only reimburses up to $7,500 per year. Many other companies have no annual limit, and this cap with Nationwide left me with a huge unexpected bill. It’s crucial to check for these limits before choosing a plan.

With four cats of different breeds, finding a company that covers multiple pets was a priority. While some companies seem to require separate policies for each animal, like Wagmo and potentially Healthy Paws, I am still researching to see if any offer a single policy for multiple animals to simplify things and potentially save money.

Since my dog had distemper as a puppy, which he overcame, I was worried about pre-existing conditions. I was advised that anything pre-existing wouldn’t be covered. Because of this, I decided to get quotes from several companies that might be more understanding of cured pre-existing conditions, even though it’s generally a risk.

I chose Figo because they have fast claim reimbursement. I filed three claims with them, and everything was covered as expected. For instance, when my dog had diarrhea in December 2023, the claim was processed within a week, and when she had a nose injury requiring surgery in February 2024, the claim was processed in just two days. Getting paid back quickly is a big plus for me.

For me, the most important thing was a user-friendly app, and Lemonade’s app is fantastic. I’ve submitted several claims, and the app makes it so easy that I haven’t even needed to talk to a person. Plus, even though the app is great, I still get a personal email from an advocate after each claim, which gives me peace of mind knowing someone is reviewing it.
