Hey everyone, I just got an adorable 10-week-old Golden Retriever puppy and I’m trying to decide if I should get pet insurance right away. It seems like there are so many options out there, like Spot, Fetch, Trupanion, Lemonade, Healthy Paws, Pets Best, and Embrace. I’m a bit overwhelmed and wondering what your experiences have been. Is pet insurance really worth the cost, especially for a young, healthy puppy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I decided to just put aside $75 every month in a high-interest savings account instead of getting pet insurance. While some say insurance is crucial, especially seeing vet bills potentially reach thousands of dollars, I’m hoping that by saving regularly, I’ll have enough for any unexpected costs. It’s a bit of a gamble, but for me, the monthly premiums felt like a lot when my pet is currently healthy.

I have Nationwide Whole Pet, and it’s expensive at $250 per month. However, I chose it because I was concerned about potential health issues with my dog. It really depends on your budget and how much risk you’re willing to take.

I went with Healthy Paws for my puppy. One key difference I considered was that they have annual deductibles, while Trupanion has deductibles per condition. For me, an annual deductible made more sense in case my puppy develops multiple issues throughout the year.

I’ve had ManyPets for about two years and like that they don’t have a payout cap. They also cover certain pre-existing conditions if they are symptom-free for 18 months. My annual premium is $419.88 (around $35 monthly).
