Hey everyone, I’m a new pet parent trying to decide if pet insurance is worth the monthly cost. I’ve been reading a lot online, and it seems like there are strong opinions on both sides. Some say it’s a lifesaver when unexpected vet bills pop up, while others argue you’re better off just putting that money into a savings account. What has your experience been? Have you found pet insurance to be a good investment, or do you think it’s mostly just throwing money away each month?

I had a terrible experience with ASPCA insurance. I had at least 30 days processing time for every claim, and they repeatedly asked for the same documents. For one ER visit that cost over $3,000, I faced constant delays and conflicting reasons for the lack of processing. This taught me the importance of not just price, but also the reliability of the insurance company.

With Healthy Paws, my dog was attacked by another dog and needed surgery on his mouth and leg. They sent us a check within three days and even covered the dental cleaning related to the injuries. While the cost of Healthy Paws has gone up over time, their prompt payment in a major emergency made it worthwhile for me.

I tried Embrace for my pets, and it was cumbersome. I had to submit the same information multiple times, and claims seemed to get lost, leading to long reimbursement times. I’d rather have the money in a savings account that I can access directly without the hassle of paperwork and potential delays.

My experience with Embrace has been positive. My almost 14-year-old Sheltie has had nearly 80 medical claims for frequent pneumonia and other issues, and they’ve always covered what we expected. While the premiums have increased as she’s aged, the fact that they’ve consistently paid out on significant bills makes it worth the cost for me.
